CAC Cloud Architect

 

Cox Automotive Canada has been on a cloud transformation journey, modernizing our product and IT platforms while moving to public cloud provided infrastructure and PaaS capabilities. This effort has strong momentum and has delivered dramatic improvements in team member productivity, improved system reliability, and decreased security risk posture.

We are looking for a Cloud Architect to drive a cloud-centric architectural approach for our Product Engineering and IT teams to improve the quality, simplicity, and time-to-market of the services they deliver.

The Cloud Architect will work collaboratively with the technology stakeholders including solution and software architects, principal engineers, security and network support, product management and business leaders to understand their needs and develop business-driven roadmaps for migration to the cloud. This individual will also collaborate with US-based Cloud Enablement team for their best practices and standard approaches, tools, and engineered solutions to address any unique needs we may have.

Reporting to the CTO, the Cloud Architect as a member of the CAC Architecture team will participate in developing prescriptive patterns, standards, and target-state architectures for the Cox Automotive Canada.

Key Responsibilities:

 

  • Cloud Architecture – advise teams on technical direction, ensuring consistency with the CAC standards to cloud architecture, and conducting architecture reviews in the spirit of the AWS Well-Architected Review.
     
  • Systems Architecture – proactively engage with teams on questions of technical architectural direction, sharing subject matter expertise on preferred architectural patterns and re-usable approaches from across the CAC. Learns about and drives the dissemination of reusable patterns across teams, both within CAC and across International markets.
     
  • Developing Architectural Guidelines and Design Principles – collaborate with other architects in creating a set of common production-readiness standards and design principles, working closely with representatives from Security, Production Engineering, and our Architecture teams.
     
  • Monitoring the Industry / Technical Landscape – ensure that our architectural direction is consistent with current, accepted practices in our industry and within CAC. Communicate new technology and practices to our teams via design reviews and training sessions.
     
  • Cross-CAC Collaboration – collaborate with leaders from Architecture, Security, Production Engineering, IT Operations and Product teams across CAC to contribute to a wider set of patterns and practices that support our teams in building quality, production-ready, maintainable solutions.
     
  • Training – develop and deliver training sessions on a wide range of architectural topics for leaders, architects, and team members. Training development plan should be based on an understanding of CAC’s architectural priorities and the teams’ maturity level and developmental needs.
     
  • Architectural Advocacy – act as a thought leader to advocate for the approaches that will lead to success for the organization, working with executive leaders to gain buy-in and alignment.

 

 

Qualifications:

  • 10+ years of working experience as a practicing architect and / or lead engineer
  • Proven ability to work autonomously to drive results in a complex, matrixed environment
  • Passion for technology with a proven ability to stay up-to-speed on current trends in enterprise-scale cloud development
  • Working experience in technology delivery, especially in Internet environments
  • Working experience with relevant AWS and other cloud technologies
  • Working experience as an Architect on large-scale software implementations
  • Working experience in multi-tier enterprise architecture environments
  • Working experience with relevant database technologies
  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science degree or related field
