This position is responsible for carrying out the directions given to perform work under the Provincial Apprenticeship Training Program including a wide range of automotive service and mechanical repair duties. Hours worked and applied to work are credited toward full journeyman certification.

Primary Responsibilities

- Diagnoses and performs work as outlined on repair order with efficiency and accuracy, in accordance with
dealership, factory and warranty policies and procedures.
- Discusses any problems related to the repair with a Technician or Service Manager.
- Communicates with Parts Department to obtain needed parts.
- Saves and tags parts of the job if under warranty or if requested by customer.
- Examines assigned vehicle to determine if further safety or service work is required or recommended.
- Informs the Service Advisor of any additional repairs needed or advised.
- Documents all work performed and recommended on the repair order.
- Road tests vehicles after repairs are completed, to ensure that the repairs have been properly done, and that the
repair answers the concerns as stated on the work order.
- Greets customers when in service bay ensuring optimum customer service and explaining the “Why’s?” and
“How’s?” of the problem.
- Understands and keeps abreast of manufacturer technical bulletins and vehicle regulations.
- Ensures that customer cars are kept clean. Notifies Service Advisor immediately of anything that has happened to
change the appearance or condition of the vehicle.
- Performs hoist and machinery maintenance and maintains equipment maintenance records.
- Attends all training courses as requested by Service Manager.
- Shuttles vehicles into and out of service area.
- Maintains complete knowledge of and complies with company and departmental policies, procedures and standards.
- Maintains customer and company confidence by keeping information confidential and secure.
- Maintains a positive working relationship with team members and management in a team environment.
- Sets-up and organizes individual work area with designated supplies, forms and
resource materials while maintaining cleanliness at all times.

Required Skills and Experience

- Completion of high school diploma or vocational equivalent.
- Must be enrolled in an accredited provincial journeyman’s program with the goal to earn full journeyman certification
as an automotive repair technician.
- Working knowledge of technical repairs and procedures.
- Knowledge of Provincial Safety Standards concerning the performance and area of position responsibility.
- Ability to drive manual transmission.
- Ability to work cohesively with employees and managers as part of a team.
- Excellent interpersonal skills.
- Must be able to communicate (verbal and written) in English fluently.
- Ability to work efficiently and effectively under pressure with simultaneous deadlines.
- Detail oriented and excellent organizational and multi-tasking skills.
- Mechanical aptitude and quality orientated.
